Strange question to ask, as I reside here. But I'm hosting a small rendezvous. Nothing outrageous, but I'd love a breathtaking locale. I'm not looking for a restaurant (since I'd rather put it together myself) but I want it to have a restaurant feel -- elegant, timeless, and romantic. Can anyone think of any place in Baltimore, or any surrounding area within Maryland, that's open to the public and doesen't prohibit food or candles. Piers, parks, very highly elevated places with a view of the city, towers, hideaways...anything?? Thanks so much!Does Anyone Live In (or have visited) Maryland?
I live in Maryland and it is the best place ever! (not really but good enough for me)
There should be places in the Inner harbor.
I've driven through. Very pretty. I was there in the spring. Loved the flowers.Does Anyone Live In (or have visited) Maryland?
I have lived there --- I was born there. Like the answerer above me said, I loved the flowers. Baltimore is a good place to pick. Good choice! Sry I can't really answer your question, but hey, good luck with your business.. Maybe one time, I'll visit. (Right now I live in GA.)

Have you ever heard of Austin Grill?
http://www.austingrill.com
Austin Grill is a restaurant chain serving the Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., and Baltimore areas with authentic Tex-Mex cuisine.Have you ever heard of Austin Grill?
Heard of it but their food aren鈥檛 that good.
noHave you ever heard of Austin Grill?
I have but never went before, Maybe I should go there oneday to see and taste what you all are tasting........let me know next time you go.o I can have some Tex-Mex cuisine to......
Please and Thank you!!!!!
never heard of it. i live in so cal.
not the best restaurant in the world. the one in old town alexandria is ok, but not great.
Here in Austin, there is no such restaurant. I hope they are serving close to authentic... but then again, Tex-Mex is so watered down now, they are probably just like the other 230234 chains serving "tex-mex".
Yes. I am from Austin and was visiting my sisters who lived in Alexandria. They wanted to show off their "authentic" Tex-Mex restaurant. It wasn't bad. There's much better in Texas, but if I were in Virginia and needed a Tex-Mex fix, I'd go there. Margaritas were good - that's important!

Should i Replace My Truck?
Own a restaurant and catering company in Baltimore Maryland. We have 4 custom made catering trucks that cost apx. $25,000.00 each. Our oldest truck, a 94' dodge dakota is starting to have alot of problems. The transmission is starting to shift very roughly, it doesn鈥檛 have much acceleration. The hood is starting to rust, I need new ball bearings on the front two wheels, and just yesterday the rpm gauge started acting very weird and somestimes dosent move at all. Should i Replace My Truck?
replace it if it has that many problems, when they get to bad it cost more to keep them up than to replace them, you need something reliable and this truck doesn't sound like its going to very reliable for very long, good luck.
Considering the price of Gas today this might be a good time to buy. Trucks are not going to get thrifty any time soon because of all the retooling for 2009 and the greening of the cars.
Usually when the tranny starts to go the rest is sure to fail.
My truck is 16 yr old Toyota but the trans is excellent.
Don't buy another Dodge; use Consumer Reports to find your base truck and then add the custom body, and you cannot go wrong.Should i Replace My Truck?
you don't need to buy a BRAND NEW truck, maybe you can find a more reliable newer used truck. I don't think the heap you have is worth overhauling.

Why don't L!berals condemn the racism and bigotry that is so prevalent in the black community?
BALTIMORE -- Bail was denied Monday for the woman accused of brutally beating a transgender woman inside a Baltimore County McDonald's restaurant last week, and the woman who tried to help break up the assault is telling her side of the story.
Teonna Brown, 18, faces felony assault charges, among others, after a cellphone video was posted online last week showing her and another person beating up the victim inside the Rosedale McDonald's in the 6300 block of Kenwood Avenue.
Brown is being held in the Baltimore County Detention Center. A 14-year-old girl also faces charges, according to investigators.
--------------------------------------…
From older woman with purse who tried to intervene to save the victim.
"I think it's terrible. I think it's inhumane," said 55-year-old Vicki Thoms, who tried to break up the assault. "When they started really hurting her, to the point where I thought she was going to die, that's when I decided someone needed to do something."
"I kept screaming, 'Stop. Get off of her.' And they wouldn't stop. One of the girls said to me, 'It's none of your (expletive) business,' and hit me in the face," Thoms told 11 News.
"The one employee there -- I think it was the manager -- said to me, 'You do know that's not a woman. That's a transvestite.' And I said, 'So? She's human,'" Thoms said. Why don't L!berals condemn the racism and bigotry that is so prevalent in the black community?
i have noticed its only a hate crime if you harm a black person
Racism and bigotry are despicable no matter where it occurs.
Are you satisfied now?
Why don't conservatives condemn the blatant political bias in conservative media outlets like they did in "mainstream media"? Why is it okay for conservatives to abandon an pretense at objectivity in journalism? Why don't L!berals condemn the racism and bigotry that is so prevalent in the black community?

I was looking for an article about Allen West, and I clicked a link that took me here...I thought it was a KKK/White Power website, but these people are all black...I have NEVER seen such a racist website.
Are you suggesting liberals condone this, or any other, beating? Are they saying this person should not be arrested?
You're not even making any sense.
(And, just my two cents, but it seems a conservative would be much more likely to beat up a transgendered person.)
You are asking for the people who reveled in the gang rape, torture, and murder of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome to condemn racism in the black community? You should know better by now.
Don't worry...

You don't know much about ghetto life in the big city do you.
What a shame, had you attended any school of higher learning you would have been able to study psychology and sociology. It's obvious you did not.
Look. We have a lot of blacks in the south and we get along for the most part. I have been to Nigeria and the blacks over there hate the blacks more than the worst white cracker here. So lets drop the racism.
Liberals need racism and blacks in order to ever gain power through an election. They would no sooner condemn this than they would admit that their messiah 0bama was a worse president than the failure Jimmuh Carter.
Because condemning the racism and bigotry that is so prevalent in the White community takes up all of my time.
According to liberal logic, black people can't be racist. It's always white people's fault.
Where's proof of racism and why does this one case mean it's an issue in the black community. You may be the dumbest one here. Your questions reek of simplicity.
Literally 100% of liberals DEMAND racism and bigotry as a matter of law. No exceptions.
I'm always willing to condemn racism and bigotry
no matter where it comes from !

I do, sorry you don't pay attention to the things that debunk right-wing mythology.

Chili's blue margaritas...?
i got served underage one time in baltimore at a Chili's restaurant. It was a blue margarita, it tasted like lemonade. does anyone know what this drink was, and/or where i could get the ingredients to make these? i liked them because they didnt taste like alcohol at all.Chili's blue margaritas...?
Simple blue margarita recipe:
2 oz tequila
1 oz blue caracoa
3 oz margarita mix or 4 oz marg mix, and serve on the rocks.
4 or 5 ice cubes
blend
Add fresh squeezed lime
Don't forget the salt!
it probably would have been : blue curaco for the blue color, tequila and lemon mix (frozen lemonade would work too.)
if you are not a fan of tequila though and you like the blue color try a blue hawaii: it is blue curaco, pineapple juice and malibu rum.Chili's blue margaritas...?
No, it was not an electric lemonade. Not even close. A blue margarita has tequila, blue curacao, (pronounced "cure-uh-sow", named after the island), lime juice, and optionally some lemon sweet %26amp; sour mix, which was probably added to your drink, since you couldn't taste the alcohol. It should also be served in a salt-rimmed glass, unless you don't prefer it.
Where I work has a blue margarita and its made with 1oz blue curacao (cur-a-sahw, not cur-a-co) 2 oz sauza hornitos tequila and about 4 oz margarita mix. you can get the ingrediants at any liquor store, as long as your not UNDERAGE!!

Why Did WWE Pull Zack Ryder's Broski Shirt from wweshop.com?
WWE has pulled the Zack Ryder Broski Authentic T-shirt from their merchandise website. The purchase page for the T-Shirt reads “ITEM NOT AVAILABLE.”
The youth version of the shirt was also pulled.
The shirt was decided on by fans in a poll last June. The poll is still available on WWE’s Facebook page for Ryder and the image for the Broski shirt was deleted.
– The Informer teases in the October 2011 issue of WWE Magazine that a “certain Superstar is planning on making the leap to the music world by releasing an album sometime in 2012.”
– WWE Hall of Famers The Iron Sheik and Koko B Ware appear at Della Rose’s Restaurant 8153 Honeygo Blvd. Baltimore, Maryland this Friday from 8:00 p.m. They will also appear at George’s Cards and Collectibles 7755 New Falls Rd Levittown, Pennsylvania the following day from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Should I Replace My Truck
Own a restaurant and catering company in Baltimore Maryland. We have 4 custom made catering trucks that cost apx. $25,000.00 each. Our oldest truck, a 94' dodge dakota is starting to have alot of problems. The transmission is starting to shift very roughly, it doesn鈥檛 have much acceleration. The hood is starting to rust, I need new ball bearings on the front two wheels, and just yesterday the rpm gauge started acting very weird and somestimes dosent move at all. My question, should I replace this truck with a new truck that will cost $27,000.00, or spend 10,000$ to totally overhaul the truck.
You can view pictures of the truck at:
http://www.sorrentoscatering.com/catering_trucks
It is the truck with the pink lettering.Should I Replace My Truck
This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Obviously, you don't need the tach. You'd be stupid to fix that. Packing the wheel bearings is going to cost $100. You spend more than that on socks and underwear. Overhauling transmissions is just a cost of doing business, right? You plunk down $2000 for every quarter million worth of business the truck does. Replacing the whole truck won't stop that. If you run a delivery business that goes with it.
So it comes down to this - Do you paint the truck or not? You could literally spend $10,000 painting this truck. I probably wouldn't just because of its age. But it's a sure thing that this truck is going to give you cheaper service than a new one. No way around it. I might try to have the hood painted only. It looks pretty cute in the pictures.
You know, new trucks are getting the worst gas mileage that trucks have ever achieved in the history of the world. It just blows my mind.
yes.

wassup b'more i miss the old hammerjack days and weekends on the baltimore block next to the police station. i would get rid of it if its going to cost ten g to overhaul it
Business wise it would be best to buy another truck. That way you write it off at the end of the year and it will save you money on repairs in the future. you have a safer truck for your employees to drive . The new truck just makes better sense.
Well honestly it looks like u need to buy some real trucks and not pea shooters or even vans u could get 2 econoline vans and 2 trucks and use the trucks for the small parties and the vans for the bigger ones. But if u are not in the financial decision i would buy this as it is and then add your equipment or use the old equipment and just transfer trucks and save more money

If the truck need $10,000 to repair it would be a good move to get a new or newer truck. you say it is a custom truck maybe you can save some money by taking off the custom stuff and putting it on the new or newer truck. in the long run you will save time money and aggravation Dodge dakota's have a lot of problem's to begin with that come with age in the 93 to 99 yeas.toyota %26amp; nissan can do the same job and less thing's go rong %26amp; you will save gas too!!!!

I want to take a trip and I will be traveling alone. Which of these options would offer the most to do?
I enjoy restaurants/bars, culture, zoos/aquariums, shopping, outdoor adventures or just hiking/biking through a park, some history and I love sight-seeing %26amp; visiting city icons like the St. Louis Arch, the Space Needle or a famous port or pier. I am in my early 30's. Here are the options:
Baltimore
Chicago
Denver
Hartford, CT
Minneapolis/St. Paul
Portland
Providence
Reno/Tahoe
Salt Lake City
Seattle/Tacoma
Spokane
I would also like to hear suggestions about what to do in these places. I would like a city with good infrastructure, where it is fairly easy to get along, and I would like a city with a friendly culture, should I need directions or help getting around. Nice weather would be good (traveling near the end of September), but I don't mind some rain here and there.I want to take a trip and I will be traveling alone. Which of these options would offer the most to do?
What, no Boston?
Added: Well, since Boston is out... Chicago has tons to do. Amazing architecture. Blues clubs, good transit, fine museums. Take the architectural boat ride. Very friendly. Go up the Hancock or the Sears Tower. Sept is perfect -- winter is brutal, summer is sweltering.
Denver is good for a short trip. Friendly people, day trips to the mountains, good downtown. Very dry if you are from the lowlands, take eyedrops and chapstick.
Providence is good for a day or two, then go to Newport for the mansions and some of the beaches down state for hiking/nature. Great restaurants in Providence, the Design Museum is cool. Otherwise not much.
Reno is also good for a base. If you don't gamble, the casino hotels are a great bargain. Virginia City and Carson City are a good day trip. Tahoe is wonderful for hiking, boating, etc. Great scenery.
Seattle is good on its own. Wonderful food, great bookstores. Side trip down to Tacoma to see the glass museum.
I'd skip Hartford, not much there. Haven't been to the others for longer than it takes for the train to stop or to transfer planes.I want to take a trip and I will be traveling alone. Which of these options would offer the most to do?

What to do in an East Coast USA road trip?
Me and a friend are going to spend 5 days max on a road trip leaving from Oconee National Park heading to Augusta for a few hours and eventually end in NYC.
So, I'm after advice on where to go/what to see. I'd like to spend a day %26amp; night in North Carolina, Virginia and Baltimore.
Any advice for anything to see in between? Myrtle Beach worth a trip? We will be hiring a car and don't have a huge budget. We're not looking to go to the rowdiest of places but we're not going to shun the advice of where decent clubs/bars are at! Same goes for restaurants!
Scenic routes?
Even to be pointed in the direction of sites to help us would be good.
Beginning to ramble this into the makings of a singles advert so I'll stop there.

Myrtle Beach is definitely worth the trip. Here are a couple of links to places you talked about and what they have to offer in the form of attractions. I hope this was helpful.

I don't think 5 days is enough for a road trip. You'll be spending most of the day driving, as a trip for Georgia to New York City would take around 20 hours.
New York City should have its own day, or maybe even two if y'all are going at a slower pace :) Best clubs/bars are here, but remember the drinking age here in the US is 21!
Yeah, Myrtle Beach is worth a trip, although I'd say Florida beaches are better! (although Florida is out of your way, though)
Stop by Washington DC on the way and take some pictures of the stuff there. Then leave before you get shot! No, just playing, its a beautiful city :D
You'll be driving on the Interstate Highway 95 most of the way. Georgia has great views of the ocean, you'll drive in the middle of Richmond, Virginia and Baltimore. You'll have a fantastic view of New York City driving through New Jersey.
= = Day 1- Drive up to DC. You can spend 2 weeks here alone, but for your trip, do a day. Park at union station.
In the morning, hit the mall, check out the white house, the lincoln memorial, the washington monument
In the afternoon, hit a smithsonian museum (i like the new american history one, it is sweet.).
Dinner time. Eat at union station, and drive out on NEW YORK AVE (Route 50), to annapolis. stay the night in annapolis. Walk around the docks, chill out.
Have breakfast the next morning at chick %26amp; ruths on Mainstreet.
Drive across the bay bridge on 50 east to Ocean city. Spend the afternoon chillin on the beach.
Eat dinner in OC, and head north on the coastal highway into delaware. spend the night in rehoboth beach.
After a morning on the beach, drive to philly. Center City. Go check out the liberty bell, walk around. eat lunch.
By 4 pm, get in the car and drive to New York.
Spend several days in NY. SO much to do hard to list.
Then head to Vermont. Its gorgeous. Check out Burlington. Maybe a day.
Drive east to Maine, hit the southern maine coastal towns. Eat a lobster roll :)
Then drive home, stopping in Boston. From there, follow 95 until you hit Baltimore.
Spend an afternoon/evening in Baltimore. Go to an orioles game in camden yards if they are playing.
Eat some crabs in baltimore.
next morning, drive down to Richmond, but not on 95. take the old route 3 route 301 south way, pretty countryside in southern maryland and virginia.
= Enjoy. ROad trips are fun :)

What are some good culinary schools?
I'm a senior in high school, and I'm not sure where to go in life...I don't have many talents or interests. I've always wanted to be a writer, but I have to get a stable life and job first and brace for rejection.
So I've considered careers in teaching and baking/pastry arts, because I'm good at English and I love baking and learning how to bake. However, I'm not very experienced in the kitchen (though I have been practicing recently to see if it really is for me, and I like it a lot so far), and I'm really shy so standing in front of a large group of staring kids would be very hard for me to do.
So for now I'm seriously considering working in the baking/pastry arts field. I have this plan to go to a culinary school or a school that has a good baking program, get a bachelor's degree in baking/pastry arts, and find work at a catering company (restaurants aren't really for me). After that, eventually I want to open my own bakery/cafe.
I currently live in Baltimore, Maryland, and although going out of state would be cool, I still need to consider my local options too.
So here is the question: What are some good culinary schools?
I want to go to a school where they teach the basics first (as probably very few people go in knowing a lot), but I want them to have a very good baking program that can teach me everything I need to know to do well in the business.
A school with a study abroad program is a must--I need international experience!
Student housing is also a must, because if it's far I obviously need a place to stay, and if it's local I just want to be independent and have a good experience away from home. I need to work on being independent and living on campus would really help.
Also, if there are any tips you may have for choosing schools, doing well in culinary school and in the field, and choosing careers, etc...all advice is very welcome. I'm still kind of a kid, and I am about to go on a scary new journey.
Thanks for reading my giant wall of text :DWhat are some good culinary schools?
You should ask this question to Food Network. Go to the website and pull up the q and a area and ask them. They certainly should know. I think you are wise to explore your options. P.S%26gt; The CIA in California is a good school. Culinary Institute of America. What are some good culinary schools?

Travel tips from locals?
So I'm taking a road trip very soon and I will be driving thru many many states and cities. I was wondering if someone could suggest places like bars, clubs, and restaurants that someone 21-25 might want to go. I like to go to places that locals would go when I can. And locals always know the places that have the best food and/or atmosphere!
Obviously I won't be going everywhere on this list.. but I want to know so I can plan my trip around where I think sounds the best. Thanx!

What is your favorite city ?
It can be anywhere in any country. Have you done some traveling this
season ? I have. I went to Baltimore back in June 2009.
It is a nice city. But it is not my favorite. I want to know. Which
city is your favorite. Think cosmo, think energetic atmosphere.
Think nightlife, think social status, think commute time. Think
shopping venues, and outlets. Please do not forget the
restaurants and diners. And yes, if it is your favorite, it has
to be a beautiful one. For me, it is Philadelphia Pa. The City of Brotherly Love.... I love
that town. Google it if you dare......... I want to know, what
is your favorite city or place to be............What is your favorite city ?
Right now I would have to say Portland, Oregon is #1.
But I also really like Boston, Philly, NYC, SF, LA, Seattle, Chicago, NO, Denver, Anchorage and all of the many other smaller places I've been to.
Being a Canadian, I love and respect the USA more than most people who actually get to live there and take it for granted. Everywhere I go the people are much more friendly and alive compared to us lame-o Canucks, and there is a real sense of community.
myanus...thats a real city in NJWhat is your favorite city ?
In the U.S, Chicago. In Britain, Edinburgh. In continental Europe, Florence.
Plymouth MA. I actually would love to live there.
My second favorite would be Chicago.
In the UK, Woodstock. In Europe in general - Naples.
I live in Baltimore, but my 2 favorite cities in the world are Stockholm Sweden and Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
Unfortunately Philly doesnt do it for me.. Neither does Miani or Orlando.. Or LA.. Chicago however.. NICE
Well, I live in Chicago so you know my choice. Chicago has many nightclubs for the young and the old. College night is on Thursdays and Sundays and the escort service is phenomenal(ha). Summertime is usually the best time to visit Chicago, as they offer free concerts downtown and during the last week in June through the 4th of July, there is the Taste of Chicago. Best thing to ever happen to Chicago right there...ha oh yea!
I loved NYC, also San Francisco. I like Miami, but it's a bit too warm sometimes.
Toronto,Canada is the my favorite city.
thank you,stupid american.
Baltimore? Make me puke--no one likes Baltimore. Philly too is a disgusting city.
San Francisco I guess, but it has downsides too.
San Diego has a charm, but the downtown is too underdeveloped and the only livable areas are to the north and northeast, everything else is deplorable.
New Orleans was great before the storm.
The DC area is nice, but the rush hour traffic is horrendous.
edit: Chicago is the pits--it's been consistently rated one of the most miserable and stressful cities in America.

Ryde-On: Lake Tahoe is 1/2 hour from Reno only when they're not working on the roads--I took that drive a couple of weeks ago, got stopped for 1 hour both into and out of Reno over the mountains (1 mph for 1 hour each way--ouch). Reno was definitely worth forgetting for me.
Christian: I've been to London, Ontario! (didn't know anyone really visited there much)
Erin: I have no idea what you would love about Tampa--it's got 3x the national average of every or nearly every crime category, the beaches are lousy, and the people are hicks. (I've lived there)
well.... in usa i'd say chicago, in europe i'd have to say barcelona and in britain, well i'd say somewhere in scotland, if only it weren't for the scots, probably st davids
Well, I have visited many cities in Europe, most of them capital cities and I really must say that in my eyes none of them can hold a candle to London.
London is an incredible city and I love it with a passion.
And no, I don't live there.
However, if I had to choose a foreign city, it would have to be Amsterdam.
los angeles
Vegas to visit, not to live there. More entertainment and restaurants than anyone could ever get enough of.
Live in B-more.
Favorites are Oxford and Seville, though.
Boston is wonderful, but I also like New York. I've been to Baltimore as well and can't say it gets my vote either.....Philly has a nice vibe but I couldn't live there.
Probably my favorites are all the ones I haven't been to yet...I can still think what I want about them and dream about going....pretty much every major city in Europe lol. I would really dig the tourist-y thing---see X amount of cities in X amount of days....but i would want to be toured around by a local and see the out of the way spots, that's where all the best stuff is
Probably Reno Nevada.
It's a nice cross section of city and country.
Desert and mountains within riding distance.
Lake Tahoe is a 1/2 hour away and I like to shoot craps.
London, Ontario is beautiful, as is Toronto. Actually, so is Stratford.
But my favourite place to be is my hometown. I love it here. We don't have what a city has to offer (shopping, entertainment, etc.) but it's beautiful and clean and it's a good place to raise kids. Plus we're really close to all kinds of cool outdoorsy attractions, which I love.
Mine is Tampa, FL. There's something about that place that just resonates with me. Second place is Boston, MA, followed by my hometown of Burlington, VT.

What are some places to visit in Washington, DC, that aren't too hokey nor too hip?
I'm a faculty adviser and taking some college kids to DC next week. We may have a couple of nights in town. The students are limited as to how much they could spend on meals, but I believe they are of legal drinking age. I don't want to take them someplace too dull, nor someplace too "cool." We're also on an academic trip, so I don't also want to take them somewhere too heady as this will be down time.
Last year, I took the students to Baltimore but one place we hit was way too risque, and the neighborhood was a bit dangerous for the students I was with. I'd rather not repeat that.
I'll be at the Renaissance Hotel. Know any afforable, but decent, restaurants nearby? Comedy clubs? Other ideas? What are some places to visit in Washington, DC, that aren't too hokey nor too hip?
One of my personal favorites:
http://www.capcitybrew.com/
It's a microbrew with a lot of beer choices. They just updated their menu, lots of choices. Somewhat un-accommodating for parties much over 8.
On New York Ave, around 11th st. Your hotel is about 2-3 blocks away. Its in the "Old Greyhound" building. A beautiful Art-Deco style building which is completely restored.
It's in a good part of town. Stay away from the parks at night to avoid the freaky people, and stay south of your hotel (Street letters going toward "A"). Much above L can get a little hairy.
Comedy Club: dcimprov.com 1140 Connecticut Ave. From your hotel work your way to 11th and K street and get on the big red circulator bus towards Georgetown (bus costs $1). Take that to around 18th st. connecticut avenue is near there too. walk "uptown" on Connecticut, it's on the left. Take the big red bus back towards union station to return to your hotel. Ask your hotel concierge more about the circulator... it's a great way to get around town.

Is Canberra boring? What is living there like?
Hi all. Thinking of moving to Australia for grad school and hesitating between Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. So I figured, who knows better than the locals?
Since school is going to be intense, I probably won't have that much spare time. But during that spare time, I'd like to be able to sit outside in cafes and parks on most weekdays (and not be the only person there), enjoy a nice weather, go clubbing every once in a while, go have a drink at the pubs, and meet educated people who are not afraid of cultural and ethnic diversity.
Also, the less religious, the better. No offense to anyone, but it's a rule of thumb I've confirmed through empirical observation in several countries. As the late George Carlin said, though shalt keep thy religion to thyself!
A lively city center with restaurants, shops, and people walking around is a must. That city center must not be deserted after 6:00 pm on weekdays, as in Philadelphia and Baltimore where I used to live.
I'm a male in my mid-20's and not American, in case you wondered, but I've been told I sound like one. And since I brought it up, what reactions to my accent, if any, should I expect? Would that be different in the three cities?
Thanks for reading! Is Canberra boring? What is living there like?
i dont live there, but the year 7s at our school went on a tour there. apparently it is boring due to all being about government and that but i here there are some nice resturants there...
From what you've said I think you'd be happy in Canberra, but also happy in each of the other towns. Canberra is not overly religious (though few large towns are now). It is the most educated of all Australian towns and thus respects diversity. I don't expect you'll have trouble because of your American accent. Is Canberra boring? What is living there like?
Canberra is boring for some. It really depends on what you make of it. Personally, I would pick Melbourne.
I didn't mind Canberra at first - no traffic and lovely trees, countryside and bushland. I stayed three years and the jobs are good and so is the pay.
Nightclubs and pubs are almost non-existent - the Phoenix is the best you'll come to an alternative pub and the Wig and Pen, which brews its own beer, is also good. But I found Canberrans insular, cliquey, highbrow and oblivious to the outside world. Sure they are rather well educated but that doesn't mean interesting. Almost everyone is a public servant and concerned with what APS level you are etc.
The place is deserted after 6pm - you can hear the wind ruffling the flags and wonder at the sound of footsteps coming from no where, while a few people loiter near the interchange. That's central Canberra after 6!
However, if you want to bring up kids and have a nice relaxing time, see the art gallery and museum and don't mind being isolated, then Canberra's alright and there are a lot of contented people.
As for your accent, us Aussies don't mind accents as long as we can understand you. But Canberra ain't too multicultural - try Sydney or Melbourne for a more diverse crowd and for a good party and music scene.
Hi!
Everything you want is here in Canberra! The ANU is the best university in Australia and is right next to the city centre of Canberra. The city of Canberra has great shops, clubs, bars, cafes and parks. There is even shops, bars, cafes at the ANU, which is a beautifull campus full of green park space. Manuka and Kingston just south of the lake is full of bars, clubs, cafes and boutiques. If you go to the right parts of Canberra you won't end up in deserted places.
Lot's of people in Canberra have no religion status.
No one will care about you so called american accent, all they might do i ask if your american which they wouldn't discriminate against anyway.
The good thing about Canberra compared to Melbourne and Sydney is that the university is right in the city and there is basicallly no traffic problems in Canberra.

Edit:
Not to be rude but Polly was wrong about saying that almost all the population is in public service. Around 40 percent of the population does work for the goverment, including public servants, nurses, teachers, cleaners etc.
Canberra has a population of 330,000.
I would vote for Melbourne.
Canberra is ok and would fulfill your criteria for the most part, but when I've been there I've noticed a gap time. Between 6pm and until clubs open, there is hardly anywhere to get anything to eat in the CBD. The on campus bar might be open during those times though, I haven't studied there so I don't know.
Sydney is damn expensive, so either go to Canberra, or go to Melbourne where you get the same as Sydney for cheaper prices. I've never known race or religion to be an issue on a uni campus and no one is likely to care about your accent.
Canberra is one of the most boring places in Australia if you want to go clubbing, shopping, or do anything cultural you wont find it in Canberra, It has no city centre and even if you did count it it shuts after 5:30pm and doesnt even open on weekends, its weather is ok, only go there if your into a well planned city that works well. Id go to Melbourne but the weather is terrbible, so maybe Sydney, but it is very expensive to rent there
ANU is the best uni in Australia though because it has a very very very low amount of courses available there and i think all it really does courses in is teaching.

If you had to rank the "best big cities" in America, what would your list look like?
I’m doing this research b/c I’m thinking of moving and I want to live in an area that offers big city living. I think the ideal “big city” not only has a large, dense population with a sprawling metro area, but also great nightlife/culture and restaurants, a bustling job market, big time sports, a “global city” reputation w/ lots of diversity, good public transportation and is also a tourist destination. With these parameters in mind, I created a five-tiered list of my own that classifies U.S. cities in terms of their urban appeal. Any feedback or arguments? Which cities should have made my list but didn't?
Tier 1
-New York
-Los Angeles
-Chicago
Tier 2
-Boston
-San Francisco
-Washington, DC
-Miami
-Dallas
Tier 3
-Houston
-Philadelphia
-Atlanta
-Seattle

-New OrleansIf you had to rank the "best big cities" in America, what would your list look like?
Houston is definitely Tier 2. Boston isn't. Aside from the Boston Pops and lots of strip joints there isn't a whole lot to do there (you see the historic stuff once and then it is BTDT).
The problem with your Tier 1 cities is that they're all incredibly expensive to live in. Houston and Dallas are not.
only one that is New York City but only Brooklyn every other part of NYC sucksIf you had to rank the "best big cities" in America, what would your list look like?
Tier 1 Should def be
-NY
-Chicago
-LA
I think Philly should be in tier 2. That's my only problem...otherwise, great job!
You might want to consider San Antonio on your list. San Antonio has lots to offer including a decent job market and housing market. It also has lots of neat restuarants and night life offerings and is often considered the "oddball" in Texas because of that along with the city culture.
In your top tier, LA really has no public transportation to speak of and is more of a giant suburb as opposed to the metro areas you find in Chicago and New York. Chicago and New York both offer lots of what your looking for but Chicago has more of a relaxed culture as compared to New York where the people are more on the go and brisk in their conversations. Its basically the diffrence between east coast and midwest.
San Fran also offers lots of great city culture but it stays relatively cool so if your a warm weather fan prolly not the best choice.mr tire myrtle

We need visually interesting places in Maryland.?
We are making a documentary film . We will be interviewing quite a few people about breast cancer, community involvement, and raising money to fight breast cancer. The subject is dry (boring), so we hope some visually interesting (odd or historic or bright or fun or landmarks etc...) background shots will help.
ESPECIALLY interior shots, maybe a funky restaurant, a tiny church, a long since closed theater, the foyer of an office or apartment building, an unusual musuem. Also we need some exterior shots like a covered bridge, a long since closed a amusement park-drive inn theater, a waterfall etc...
If you know of any interesting visual places please post them...
We would like to film as far north as North Ave in Baltimore, west to Ellicott City -Columbia, East to the Chesapeake, South to Jessup, Severn, Glen Burnie.
Thanks!!We need visually interesting places in Maryland.?
well i was born and raised in maryland and i think howard county is a good small place b/c all of the places are close by and we have little fun resuratnts and in the schools everyone knows everyone. maybe try there.

East Coast USA road trip?
So me and my friends are setting off from downtown Atlanta and heading, over the course of Monday-Friday to New York.

Can anyone recommend things to do/see/visit/eat/stay in/stop on the way on any of these between Atlanta and New York? We have stuff and people in both of the latter so it's the in-between bit we need help with!
Hotels, clubs, hostels, restaurants, landmarks, bars, stadiums etc. We don't have a huge budget but will be putting money aside for certain bigger things.
Anything would be amazing help.

Best east coast destinations? I would really appreciate help!! Coolest place gets best answer!!?
OK, I have one month until my roadtrip. I'm starting in Oklahoma and driving to Philadelphia. (I'm going the Tennessee, Virginia, W.V., Maryland route to get there because it's pretty). I'll go from Philly to Boston, and wanna hit all the boroughs of New York on the way too (anything cool you can suggest like restaurants great). I'm going from Boston up through Vermont and New Hampshire and crossing into Canada. I'll go through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia, then I'm taking a ferry into Maine and I'm driving back down to Baltimore where the east coast portion of my trip will end.
I really want some cool places to visit, any beautiful scenic routes or lesser traveled highway would be great... cool places to eat, hiking trails, I like outdoor things mostly I love hiking, etc. So anything like that would be great. Any cool little towns in Maine would be great
Would love anybody's help. And if anyone has West coast suggestiosn that would be cool too. I'm flying from Baltimore to San Francisco and driving from there to Oklahoma, going through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas. Anything that comes to mind, I would love suggestions.Best east coast destinations? I would really appreciate help!! Coolest place gets best answer!!?
Wow nice road trip you have planned. Check to make sure you can take a ferry from Nova Scotia to Maine, they closed down the Cat which went from Nova Scotia to Bar Harbor. I work in a restaurant along the coast of Maine and was just talking with people form Prince Edward Island, now they have a ferry and a bridge, when I was there, they had only the ferry that was 22 years ago. My best suggestion in Maine is the coast, very beautiful, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park I recommend.
Upstate New York is nice. Been to the baseball and the basketball hall of fameBest east coast destinations? I would really appreciate help!! Coolest place gets best answer!!?

The baseball hall of fame is in Cooperstown new york, the boxing hall of fame is in cazanovia new york, my city binghamton new york is the carasole capital of the world, the city of Ithaca has a crap load of big waterfalls, and the famous finger lakes. In scranton Pa 1 hour south of binghamton is steamtown usa (old rail road museum, along with the lackawana coal mine tour (actually kinda cool) .
syracuse new york has the old Erie canal museum. theirs lots of stuff to do here as far as atractions
as far as hiking goes i can sugest a few mountain trails
The catskills (closest to all the above mentioned) all can be hiked without fancy gear, bring water and trail food
if your in good shape,

It doesn't seem like you are qualified for any particular position. You have been bouncing between completely different fields. There are a lot of gaps on your resume (where were you from 1998 to 2000-no job listed for that time), you don't have any real education (undergraduate degree), the sentences are completely grammar inaccurate. From what time to what time were you in school, did you graduate? with what degree? If you are applying for a waitress or the kitchen to was dishes or something-they don't need resumes there. Otherwise I would advise you to change your resume.
I guess it depends on what jobs you are applying forI have been job hunting for 2 months and no one is calling. Does my resume suck? Help.?
Do you do windows?
REFOCUS your resume, so that it applies for one job.
Write a good cover letter that explains the kind of position that you are applying for.
Good luck
Well, No. 1, you probably shouldn't post your resume online. But besides, there;s not enough info. We don't know what city you're applying in, what job you are seeking, etc. Getting a job depends on a lot of factors, not the least of which is the current job market in your particular city. Perhaps the position you are seeking is not in high demand in the city you are applying for. We don't know. There are a ton of things that determing successful job hunting. but don't give up. Two months isn't really that long for a job search. There are people who have been looking for the right job for a year. In the meantime, they took work doing something else, just to get the money coming in. try that as well.

wouldn't confirm what was going on there.
WJZ also learned a restaurant in Middle River, By The Docks, was also the location of a search and seizure Thursday.
Twenty-nine people of different nationalities were taken into custody and driven in vans to Baltimore ICE offices.
CASA de Maryland, an advocacy group for Latino immigrants, says these raids are wrong. It's their belief this should be solved with national immigration reform.
"I think by arresting people, they will terrorize the community, and the community would be even scared to answer a census form," said Tarsila Talarico, CASA de Maryland.
ICE says it's committed to stopping illegal employment schemes utilizing illegal labor, and that businesses that do that have an unfair advantage.
"There are many small businesses in this county, state, nation that play by the rules, follow labor laws. They pay taxes, and they're seriously undercut by those employers who hire illegal immigrants," said Leopold.
ICE says it did not take the restaurant owners into custody, but the investigation is continuing.

Are they saying by arresting lawbreakers this will terrorize the community,is this the same as saying nobody should be arrested for any crimes , if it will terrorize the community per CASA de Maryland that even dangerous illegals should not be arrested if it will terrorize the community and dangerous illegals are free to committ and do any crime they want under the guise of if it will terrorize the community the police must not arrest the dangerous illegals but allow them to go free ?Why do supporters of illegals believe illegals should not be arrested in raids when found breaking the law?
As answer said, look at Casa de Maryland, another racist group allowed to practice their aiding criminals. I say RAID, RAID, RAID. Their criminals and deserve to be arrested just like any other criminal.

I agree with azz_tarc. Also they have the mentality of "we're human..we have rights.." What they are is criminals.. they have no rights, no status.
They for some reason think amnesty is coming its not at all.
The only immigration reform we are seeing is them being sent home.
On a certain level, it is inhumane.
For example, there have been cases where US Citizen children were essentially abandoned at school and orphaned because their parents were apprehended.
In other cases, US Citizen families were essentially left destitute because the sole breadwinner was apprehended.
On its face, no one, even immigrant rights advocates, is in favor of illegal immigration. However, there has to be a more humane of dealing with the problem. Tearing families apart is in direct contradiction to the stated policy of US Immigration; That is, the reunification of families.

For those of you who travel with dogs in airplanes?
I may be travelling in an airplane with my parent's Maltese. I have a really long layover in Baltimore and I am wondering if anybody knows what the rules are about restaurants in the airports. Do they generally allow the dogs inside the restaurants as long as they are in their kennels?
Thanks for your help! For those of you who travel with dogs in airplanes?

Affordable wedding in maryland?
I am looking for a simple, affordable reception site in the Baltimore Area. I am having a destination wedding, but would like to come back and have a simple reception for about 100 people. I'm looking to spend only $20-$25 a person. Any ideas where I could find a simple restaurant or such for this price?Affordable wedding in maryland?
Congratulations!
I'm in Pennsylvania but have you thought of renting a fire company's social hall for the event? Just a suggestion. We're having our reception at a local fire hall and they charge a flat fee of $300 for up to 5 hours and up to 200 people. That's $3 a person for 100 people. You'd have to talk to your local fire companies about what type of catering they allow and how their bar works, but for instance, we're paying $10.50/person for the buffet dinner and we're providing an open bar. You could have a cash bar instead, which I've heard of being done, so you're not paying that tab afterward.
But at $25 per person, you should do really well with a fire hall and caterer, IF Maryland fire companies rent out their social halls to the public anyway.
And here are a couple of sites that list a lot of different Maryland venues that you can email or call and request quotes from:

Do You Find Anything Wrong With An 8th Grade Field Trip to HOOTERS?
BERWICK, Pa. -- For one group of central Pennsylvania eighth-graders, a recent field trip to Baltimore included lunch at Hooters 鈥?a restaurant better known for its busty waitresses than its food.
The middle school students were visiting the National Aquarium last week. Chaperones took them to various restaurants for lunch because the group of 100 was too large for a single place.
One group of 15 to 20 students ended up at Hooters.
Superintendent Wayne Brookhart says that while he wishes the group's coed chaperones had chosen another restaurant, he has not received any complaints from parents.
Hooters spokesman Mike McNeil says the restaurant chain often hosts family-friendly events such as church organizations with teens and younger children.

I wouldn't care if my son ate lunch at Hooters in the 8th grade. You see worse on TV or at the beach. It's not a strip club, after all.
I WAS ON THIS TRIP! :DDDDDDDDDD
Most 8th graders masturbate and watch porn anyway, so I see no problem with it :x.
It is socially awkward though, in my opinion to have some 30 year old with 35d's while you're talking to a female friend serve you.
It wouldn't bother me. Those girls are wearing tank tops and shorts, I'm sure they've seen worse at a pool. I don't understand why anyone would go there to eat though, their food is god awful.
Kids see worse then that on tv, at the beach, and video games. I would not be upset by it at all.
yes, yes, yes
I do. It's encouraging teens that this stuff is ok. And I'm sure it's against their handbook.bbq mgm grand

Where to get gourmet burgers?
I live in Baltimore and heard there's a gourmet restaurant somewhere in PA that serves Kangaroo, Ostrich and Buffalo burgers, just wondering if anyone knows where they serve any of these burgers?Where to get gourmet burgers?
Mmmmmm Bison!!!
I'm not 100% sure but thought I'd try and be of some help.
Google "Bison burgers"instead of Buffalo in the Bmore area. You may be more successful. Not sure of a gourmet restaurant but I know "red brick station" in white marsh serves Bison. Good luck!

In order to get the voters to pass a bill that gives 2 billion dollars to schools, the drafters must metaphorically "bribe" legislators into passing the bill.
Capitol Hill is so muffed up that earmarks and legislation have been fused. Let me know when greed stops being a part of human nature, and I'll let you know when this crap will finally end.

What do you illegal charged after 3-year-old grandson found walking alone?
An Albertville grandfather is in jail and faces Immigration and Customs Enforcement charges after his toddler grandson was found walking along a busy city roadway.
Workers at Bee Gee鈥檚 Restaurant, 1107 Baltimore Ave., discovered a 3-year-old toddler walking along First Street, wearing only a diaper.Gaye Rains, a co-owner of the restaurant, had reportedly left the restaurant to make a delivery when she spotted the child in the roadway. She took the child to the restaurant while the police were called.
According to Assistant Police Chief Maj. Jamie Smith, officers searched for the child鈥檚 parents or a guardian with no success and after about 45 minutes called the Department of Human Resources to take custody of the child.
During the process, Salvador Gutierrez, the child鈥檚 grandfather, was located in a nearby mobile home park asleep in one of the homes.
Gutierrez told officers on scene he was watching the child for his son, who was reportedly at work at Pilgrim鈥檚 Pride. However, when officers called Pilgrim鈥檚 Pride, plant officials said no one with the name provided worked there.
Gutierrez was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and transported to the Albertville City Jail, where he remains under an ICE detainer pending further investigation.

Gutierrez was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and transported to the Albertville City Jail, where he remains under an ICE detainer pending further investigation.

Do You Know What This Song Is?
I heard a song in a fancy restaurant in Baltimore, MD a couple days ago. It was kinda airy and indie sounding, and in the chorus the *girl* (i believe) sings, "This is your lullaby..." and maybe something about goodbyes as well. It was really almost electronic-techno-indie pop. Idk, i would compare it to The Bird and The Bee sorta.Do You Know What This Song Is?

Chicken in Egg Sauce (Pollo en Salsa de Huevos)
Servings 4-6
INGREDIENTS:
4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) butter or vegetable oil a 3-1/2 to 4-pound chicken, cut into serving pieces 1 large onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced 1 tablespoon dry mustard salt, freshly ground pepper
2 cups chicken stock, about 6 hardboiled eggs, finely chopped
1 Heat the butter in a skillet and saute the chicken pieces until golden on both sides. Transfer them to a casserole. In the butter remaining in the skillet saute the onion and garlic with the mustard, stirring to mix. When the onion is soft, transfer the contents of the skillet to a flameproof casserole. Season with salt and pepper to taste and pour in the stock, adding a little more barely to cover the chicken, if necessary. Cover and simmer until the chicken is thender, about 45 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a warmed serving platter and keep warm. Over brisk heat reduce the sauce until it is of medium thickenss. Taste the sauce for seasoning and add a little salt and pepper if necessary. Stir in the eggs and cook just long enough to heat through. Pour the sauce over the chicken and serve, or serve the sauce separately in a sauceboat. Accompany with rice or potatoes, mixed vegetable salad, or a green vegetable.

Beef in Fruit Sauce (Carne con Salsa de Frutas)
Servings 6
INGREDIENTS:
6 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 large onion, finely chopped 3 pounds boneless beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 cup dry white wine 1 cup beef stock salt, freshly ground pepper
2 quinces, peeled, cored, and chopped, or 2 peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped 2 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped 2 pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
2 large tomatoes, peeled and chopped sugar to taste 1 cup heavy cream
1 Heat 4 tablespoons of the oil in a skillet and saute the onion until it is soft. Using a slotted spoon transfer the onion to a casserole. In the oil remaining in the skillet saute the beef until it is browned on all sides. Add it to the casserole with the wine, stock, and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and simmer until the meat is tender, about 2 hours. Arrange the meat on a serving platter and keep warm. Reserve the stock.
2 Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil in a saucepan and add the fruit, including the tomatoes. Cook for a few minutes, stirring. Add a little sugar, if liked. The sauce should be quite tart. Add enough of the reserved stock barely to cover, and simmer, stirring from time to time, until the mixture is thick and well blended. In the old days cooks had to work the mixture through a sieve, a tedious procedure; today a blender or food processor does the job. Return the puree to the saucepan and taste for seasoning, adding a little salt if necessary. Stir in the cream and cook just long enough to heat through. Pour the sauce over the meat. Serve with rice.

How much should it cost to replace ignition coils, spark plugs, and spark plug wires on a 2000 Volvo S40?
So, I have had some issues starting my 2000 Volvo S40, and recently the check engine light came on. I brought it in to Aamco so see what was up, and it came back as an engine misfire code. After diagnosing the problem, I was told I needed to replace all the ignition coils, the spark plugs, and the spark plug wires. The total estimate came to $669.22. I don't know much about cars, but searching around online it seems like this price is a little high. Is this an accurate price?
Also, a secondary question- I've been driving as a part time delivery person for a company that works with 140 restaurants in the Baltimore area, and the job involves A LOT of stopping and starting my car...would all of these short trips and frequent stopping and starting of the car be a possible reason for the above repairs to become necessary? The car has 80,000 miles on it, so I know it's partly because of the age and mileage, but I want to make sure I'm not contributing to the early demise of my car with this job.
Thanks! How much should it cost to replace ignition coils, spark plugs, and spark plug wires on a 2000 Volvo S40?
i am also a volvo owner as far as coils find out what cylinders are misfiring you don't necessarily have to replace all of them. coils are $45 ea. need 4 if you replace all. plugs are $4 ea. wires feed two coils each so you need two at $120 ea. if you just pay for parts it's around $440. now as i said i own Volvo's 2. 2002 C70 and a 2003 XC90 both had misfire codes in the past. i own a scan tool so i only replaced the bad coils cylinder 2 on C70 $36.($50w/plugs) and cylinder 1 on XC90. $54 ($75w/plugs.) changed all plugs and no wires and have had no problems since. total $110 did work myself in 1/2 hour. as for your job VERY hard on your car. pick up a cheap beater car for work.
That price is at the least twice what it should be, maybe more.
Yes stop and go traffic does wear out a car faster. How much should it cost to replace ignition coils, spark plugs, and spark plug wires on a 2000 Volvo S40?
You are looking at $20 (total for all 4) for the plugs, $40 for the wires, $50 ignition coil... Plus an hour's or so worth of labor.... Total cost shouldn't be more than $200, if that's all they are doing.
A full tune up would cost about that much, but that would also include new fluids, tire rotation, air filter, distributor cap and rotor, and a radiator flush.
The driving you are talking about will cause an increase on wear and tear of your vehicle, but 80,000 miles isn't really bad for simply needed new plugs and wires...maybe a little sooner than normal, but certainly not bad.

Why should special interest groups protest raids and our laws being enforced?
Why do they think raids and deportations should cease until immigration reform is brought up?
What if our officials keep putting off this reform that will likely not pass, do they actually think our laws should not be enforced?
So you agree these groups should be prosecuted for interfering with our laws being enforced?

Protest quickly staged after raid leads to 7 being detained
Casa de Maryland says Hondurans are in custody

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials detained seven people from Honduras after a raid Thursday in Anne Arundel County, prompting a demonstration outside the Baltimore Federal Building.
ICE spokeswoman Ernestine Fobbs confirmed that an enforcement action took place and that seven Hondurans were in custody.
She said that because the investigation is continuing, she could provide only limited information. Fobbs did not disclose the name of the business where the Hondurans were working or the location of the business.
Protesters gathered outside the Federal Building in Baltimore late Thursday afternoon. About 15 people held signs and shouted slogans, including, "Reform not raids" and "Stop separating families."
Leaders of Casa de Maryland, advocates for immigrants' rights, said they were told that seven males, one of them a juvenile, were taken into custody at a Hanover restaurant.
Elizabeth Alex, Casa's lead organizer for the Baltimore region, said there haven't been many workplace raids under the Obama administration. Advocates had hoped that raids would stop until comprehensive immigration reform can be achieved.
"We're unhappy we're seeing a return to Bush-era policy," Alex said.
"We would hope immigration enforcement would be reserved for people who are criminals," she said later.
The protesters hoped that the detainees would be released on their own recognizance or be permitted to meet with legal counsel within 24 hours.
Alex said that people who have been detained after raids might be given contact information for lawyers but might not necessarily reach them before they are sent to detention centers in York, Pa., or on the Eastern Shore.
"Due process is part of the foundation of this country," said Gustavo Andrade, senior organizing director of Casa de Maryland.
Lawyers for Casa waited 90 minutes in the ICE offices before they were told that they would not be allowed to meet with the detainees, Alex said. Why should special interest groups protest raids and our laws being enforced?
pro-illegals like the answers here are afraid their family will get what is coming to them for disobeying the law. These people have no idea the difference in right and wrong. Our laws need enforced on these invaders. Why should special interest groups protest raids and our laws being enforced?
because raids are pointless and a waste of money without reform
