I will be turing 21 in march and I want an intimate, classy setting. It would only be like five people. I don't want it to be too loud and I don't want really fancy food, but I don't want like a TGI Fridays or Cheesecake Factory. Something a step up from Cheesecake Factory. A good cocktail place!
BTW I don't like Japanese steakhouses or Indian food.Where is the best bar/ restaurant to have a 21st birthday gathering in the Baltimore area?
Your best bet would be to go here and read about the top picks and then select the one that has the food/setting you're looking for: http://www.baltimoremag.com/article.asp?鈥?/a>
My top pick for a 21st birthday for the size group you're talking about would be Tapas Teatro: http://tapasteatro.com/
You choose a bunch of small plates, share them, everyone gets to try everything, you get a picture of sangria - fruit and lower in alcohol than a regular drink or glass of wine would be (it's a combination of wine and fruit juices) so you can have a little something but still manage to drive, have the intimacy of sharing food with your friends, and this place is quiet enough that it feels a bit more upscale then some tapas places would. Plan to order about 2 dishes per person. Pitchers of sangria are about $17.
If you want something a bit more "classy" with good cocktails, try going to Pazo during the week (Monday thru Friday) http://pazorestaurant.com/ From 5 until 7 they have a Pazo Cinco menu where everything is $5 (drinks and tapas from the special menu: http://pazorestaurant.com/pdf/PAZOCINCO%鈥?/a> Two of everything plus one drink per person would be about right and the cost for your group would be less than $100 even with tax and tip.
If that's not up your alley, try Melting Pot (Annapolis, Towson or Columbia) It's GREAT for a group and they have a nice wine list and really good martinis on top of a full regular bar. It's a bit pricey though... but a whole night long experience. If you do "Big Night" you get a cheese fondue course, then a salad course, a meat/broth fondue course, then a chocolate fondue dessert course. It's fun and the high back booth seating allow for privacy in conversation for your group - so you have the intimacy of feeling like it's just you guys there.
Organic and sustainable? Woodberry Kitchen http://www.woodberrykitchen.com/
Little Italy experience? La Tavola http://www.la-tavola.com/
Thai food? Lemongrass http://www.kapowgroup.com/lemongrass/
Biggest menu, decent prices and great experience? Metropolitan http://www.metrobalto.com/
My final recommendation is Henninger's Tavern simply because I love the place. They have something for everyone, I think it's the atmosphere you're looking for, it's not overpriced and it's a personal favorite http://www.henningerstavern.com/
