Advice on vacation... Have Experience in Disney World?

I was born and raised in Florida and a few years ago I moved to NY. I have all my family in Florida and I haven't really had a long vacation with the kids there. So I 'm planning a 2 week vacation for my family. (hubby and the kids). We decided on Key West (as a mini Honey Moon) and Disney World for the girls. I'm curious if anyone has advice on locations or certain resorts. Even restaurants. Especially if you've been there with small kids. Please positive and nice answers. Thanks in Advanced!!! :0)Advice on vacation... Have Experience in Disney World?
We vacation in Florida every year for 2 weeks. I believe I can help you. Many people like to stay on site for the perks - extra magic hours, free transportation, the dining plan etc. However, my family and I prefer to stay off-site in a vacation home. We go through villa direct. The website is http://www.villadirect.com . Most of the houses rated 4 star and up have an oversized pool deck, with child safety screens. Advantages are that you will save on food, you go on your own schedule and you can have the freedom to go where you want. Many of them are also close to grocery stores.

If you do want to stay in a hotel, I would reccommend anywhere in the Lake Buena Vista area, as it's close to Disney. Also the Celebration area (lots of food, hotels) . There is also this Nickelodeon hotel that has a water park and stuff but it can be pricey. Disney also has the value resorts starting at $82.00 a night, and all have different themes. They have some nicer moderate resorts, and the deluxe resorts (which are the most expensive) Like I said before, you do get extra perks for staying at Disney.

As for restaurants, on International Drive there is the World's Largest McDonald's. I'm not sure if your girls like it, but it is something to go see! For breakfast, try IHOP! It's pretty good and cheap. There is also denny's everywhere. A nice family restaurant is Olive Garden, there's a big one on International Drive. There's tons of restaurants on I-Drive to visit.

Also, make sure to go to the Outlets on I-Drive. They are amazing! They have some great deals on childrens clothing, and stuff for the whole family. They have big name designers like Coach (the prices are marked down like crazy!) Not to mention that there are some great stores that you will like as well.

I have been to Disney plenty of times - as a small child and with my brother and sister as small kids. Depending on the age of your girls, you may want a stroller. They have a place to park them at every ride. Also, you can pack your own water bottles and snacks (like granola bars) to keep you held over until your major meals which can get pricey inside the parks. Try going to the Wal Mart Supercenter for groceries, because it's much cheaper than Publix and other grocery stores in the Orlando area.

Anyways, I hope this helps you out!
Tell us more: age of children, favorite characters, price range of hotels.

In general all on ground hotels are wonderful, especially now that the free dinning plan is an incentive. The value resorts are excluded from this option, but are a great bargain nonetheless.

Many character meals are great fun and there are a variety of options depending on age and meals. Here are great sites:

Anywhere that is a Disney property is great. You won't need to drive anywhere. Every place has something for kids. Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom are the best parks for kids. MGM is good for teenagers and Epcot is great for older kids and adults. Hope that helps.
Congratulations on taking a 2 week vacation!

You have asked a lot of questions and I'll try to help. It's best for you to research and read ~ because everyone's opinions on food, hotels, etc will vary.

My favorite book to plan WDW holidays is Unofficial Guide to WDW. Hands down~ best book. This book covers Theme Park touring with small children. Buy the current book to get Crowd Level data. This is their webpage: http://www.touringplans.com/tp2/UG2_inde鈥?/a>

Skim through UG at Books a Million so you get an idea of what is about.

I prefer staying onsite ~ but when traveling with grown sons and their girlfriends we book a vacation pool home. Being onsite offers so many extras ~ read here: http://allears.net/acc/faq_hot.htm

My personal onsite lodging is the moderate Port Orleans Riverside. Deluxe Resorts are wonderful ~ love Animal Kingdom Lodge. Your children will love it too.

A monorail resort, such as the Polynesian offers quick travel to Magic Kingdom and easy access to Epcot ~ makes it simple for afternoon breaks in your resort.

But, For the amount of time we spend in the parks ~ I'd rather save the difference between Moderate and Deluxe ~ and spend the extra while in the parks.

If this is overload info ~ and you want to make your holiday planning stress and worry free ~ visit your local travel agent and they can book a package deal. This will include, but isn't limited to ~ Disney Dining Plan, Magical Express transport from Orlando airport, and all your lodging and ticket packages.
