I am searching for a beach or island get away on the southern atlantic or gulf coast. I do not want a very developed location. My image is a half dozen motels, two or three townie bars, a couple restaurants and palm trees. No tourist traps. Is there such a place.Looking for Hemingway's Key West?

Key Largo, maybe, but I haven't been there in a long time. It may have been "discovered" by now.
You could try Everglades City in SW Florida. It's a long, spooky drive from Miami, but it fits your description.
