Going this weekend. We've been there a lot and know our way around. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good bar or restaurant off the beaten path (not on Duval Street or on the Boardwalk)? We've found Finnegan's Wake and the Hogfish Saloon. Looking for something similar.Looking for a good bar or restaurant in Key West, FL?
They were all excellent, off the beaten path and my personal favorite is Blue Heaven.
Cafe Sole 1029 Southard Street, Key West, FL 33040-7144 Went there this summer and had a lovely meal. Very small, but the staff was nice (initially a little distant but then warmed up a lot, might have been an off day for our waiter), the food was great, loved the wine selection. Don't miss out on Blue Heaven, it is such a fantastic place, very unique, the food is stellar and the atmosphere is fun.
Banana Cafe 1211 Duval Street, Key West, FL Cuisines: French Special features: Breakfast/Brunch, Outdoor seating Tel: 305 294 7227 This IS on Duval Street however it is at the south end, much quieter, away from the bar scene. Had breakfast here one day and dinner here another, both great meals. Nice atmosphere also.
Louie's Backyard 700 Waddell Avenue, Key West, FL 33040-4729 Cuisines: American, Barbecue, Caribbean, Seafood, Steakhouse, Contemporary, Eclectic, International Price range*: $41-80 Special features: Romantic, Outdoor seating Tel: 305 294 1061 Fax: 305 294 0002 URL: http://www.louiesbackyard.com/ Last but not least, for a great view (from the deck) and a slightly dressier dinner venue, try Louie's. The food was great too. Honestly, we did not have a bad meal in Key West.
We lived on Marco Island, in Florida, and would fly down for the weekend. Of course , we hit all the usual places , but we did find a place off of A1A called Damon's. We usually stayed at La Concha (loved to sit on the balcony and watch all the action late at night) and decided to walk to it. It is a very long walk , but well worth the food.
Head down to Schooner Wharf....There are a couple of chickee bars down there, not fancy, by any means, but you are right on the harbor and get to watch all the action. Turtle Cay, I think that is the name of it, is down there also. It used to be a turtle factory that they made into a restaurant.
We moved to Tennessee six years ago, so I am not up to date on what is and isn't there now. It really doesn't matter....Key West is Key West. Enjoy ! ( Stop in at Captain Tony's for us.....)Looking for a good bar or restaurant in Key West, FL?
Here is a list of travel books / sites I like to use. They are listed in the order that one would find them when entering my comfort zone.
On the outer ring, is Globe Trackers, a popular TV show on both the Travel Channel and Public TV. They find that dodgy narrow mountain path, over the mile deep canyon, on a swing bridge made of the high meadow grasses, those kind of way out there, places one would expect to find on Travel shows. Sometimes their travels choices and places to eat are just a little toooo outside my comfort zone when the local pub's idea of fast food is deep fried guinea pig. I have issues with eating house pets. But I would like to stop by some of the places they recommend, on my way to McDonald's. %26gt;%26gt;www.pilotguides.com%26lt;%26lt;
Inside the outer ring I will use, Rough Guides found at %26gt;www.roughguides.com%26lt;%26lt; These books / guides are for the more adventurous or those not looking for the "Major Mouse Mascot Theme Resort" kind of travel experience. In fact you may see a mouse or alligator, or who knows in the places Rough Guides recommends. However, the places mentioned are not dives, dumps, or biker bars. They may be just a bit on the dicey side of life, but I also find it a spicy side of life. Go to Rough Guides for something well off the tourist beaten path and not too deep in the woods.
Frommer's guides are usually the safest places, most reliable, 3 – 5 star restaurants and so forth. If you want dependable, safe, mundane, and chain, and trademarked places, then use Frommers Guides at %26gt;%26gt;%26lt;%26lt;.http://www.frommers.com/%26lt;%26lt;. Think of this one as dead center of the comfort zone, insulated with the 3rd Mountain Rangers.

And I hope for the sake of your sanity, you are not like my children think I am... I can plan a vacation like it was a Broadway Musical with each child dancing in step with the music... I only accumulate information for a location, knowing that I will see some fantastic little place not in the travel books and will stop for hours, days, weeks...
Like the Hualapai Indian Reservation, Arizona
or in Key West...
The Green Parrot– On the corner of Whitehead and Southard St., this drinking house is a real classic that has been serving the working men %26amp; women of Key West for over one hundred years. They bring in some of the finest musicians from all over the country and there is never a cover charge. Their motto is “no sniveling” and the friendly bartenders faithfully enforce it. Reasonably priced w/ full bar but beer rules!
Virgilio’s at La Trattoria – This charming full-service bar is hidden behind one of the best Italian restaurants in town at Duval and Appelrouth Lane. They have a fine rotating roster of mellow musicians and a great late-night menu is available. Best known for their awesome chocolate martini – Ketel One with Crème de Cocoa and Godiva liquer, shaken and served straight-up in chilled glass w/ dark chocolate rim.
Whtats wornge wid The Duval Crawl? I acnt stadne up thre now. ((?-)
