I was born in New Hams, England on May 8th, 1993. I was born into a strict Muslim house hold with my rules. My dad had gone to college and become a lawyer, and to show how much our religion and culture does affect our lives, after going through all those years in college, lying being a sin he just gave up the career. My mom鈥檚 brother encouraged us to move to America, and so we did.
When we got to Maryland my parents didn鈥檛 have much, a few pennies in their pockets and now my moms brothers home temporarily for a roof over their head, My Uncle immediately took my father to the nearest McDonalds and set him to work at minimum wage. A few months after moving here, my Uncle told my parents that they would have to move out and find a place for themselves now, and so what little they had saved up they rented a small little apartment and started their own lives.
We look back now and think, if when my parents moved here with me so young and eager to learn wouldn鈥檛 it have been better if they came here and were put into school, to nurse or do something of value. We鈥檝e moved around ten times, trying to settle, make ends meet, and find a place for our liking. Finally we did, five years ago, we moved to Hagerstown. It was a disappointment when I had to move too; but moving here changed my personality and social interaction in a lot of different ways.
If I could change anything about me, it would be my strong willed. I feel like this could be strength and a weakness. I will always work to get what I want and strive for it. Like I said before, my culture and religion are extremely strict. Meaning my parents never wanted me to go out. They wanted me to go to school and come home at 3 pm everyday. When I got into high school though, I wanted that to change. I took interest in sports, in my school and many clubs. My parents weren鈥檛 supportive of it all. They would do anything to get me to get out of my responsibilities or punish me so I wouldn鈥檛 be allowed to go. Social Status in our culture is also a big deal. We live in a Pakistani community filled with doctors. My parents own a restaurant, so they find it embarrassing when their eldest daughter is in school, doing sports and not home much. The price I had to pay to do all these activities was losing the relationship I had with my parents. I don鈥檛 feel like I鈥檓 part of the family anymore and I feel family is very important. Other parents have reached out to me though and I am very close to friends and teachers at school, so I have been kept grounded. I am a very hard-working and organized individual and that has helped me a lot in school. Being able to work hard pays off by involving yourself in your school and by still getting good grades will assist me in my future.
I have a lot of potential to full-fill my dreams that I wish to accomplish in my future. The most important goal I set for myself is to graduate high school. After I have succeeded in that, I would like to go to Salisbury University and graduate after 4 years. When I have finally done all of that, I intend to become a student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and graduate as a sports doctor, specializing in physical therapy and orthopedics. In between my hectic school life, I would also like to get married and have a small family of maybe one to two children.
After looking back at my past, I am happy with the way my life has turned out so far. Having gone through people holding me back all my life I feel I'm prepared for any challenges coming my way. There will always be situations where I can accomplish more than others because of the kind of person I am. What I want to pursue in life is promising and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.Is my College Essay okay?
